THE RIGHT TO FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS
The right to hold and participate in free elections is a basic democratic right, enshrined by the DOJ in Title 52. We are, for this reason, fundamentally against gerrymandering, and political attempts to disrupt or rig elections in any one party’s favor.
THE RIGHT TO BODILY AUTONOMY
We believe that the government has no business being in our bedrooms or controlling our bodies. Bodily autonomy is a human right. Bodily autonomy means my body is for me; my body is my own. It’s about power, and it’s about agency. It’s about choice, and it’s about dignity.
QUALITY EDUACATION FOR EVERY CHILD
We support public education in the United States and stand against school vouchers and any type of attempt to privatize public education. Gerardo Gonzalez (2001) said that, “Education is the great equalizer in a democratic society, and if people are not given access to a quality education, then what we are doing is creating an underclass of people who will challenge our very way of life.” He further declares that the “civil rights question of our nation today is that of access to a quality education.”
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
In 1948, the United States signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), recognizing adequate housing as a component of the human right to an adequate standard of living.
HEALTHCARE FOR ALL
We believe that healthcare is a right. Article 25 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights lists medical care as a basic human right. We support universal health care because no one should get sick and die because they cannot afford medical care.
